Before the discovery of neuropeptides (now known to carry emotions throughout the body), emotions were considered to be largely in the domain of psychology. Now emotions are also considered within the domain of acupuncturists, chiropractors, medical doctors and other vitalistic health care practitioners. N.E.T. practitioners use muscle testing, body reflex points and information gathering around emotional issues to help guide the recollection of emotional traumas "locked" in the body. These traumas can often be the cause of pain, organ malfunction or other distress. Used in conjunction with chiropractic and oriental medicine, N.E.T. can offer a quick and comfortable resolution of chronic and acute health issues that have not responded to other methods of treatment.
Neuroemotional Technique, or N.E.T., is a treatment used to remove nervous system interference that is triggered or exacerbated by stress.
The results of this interference can produce a variety of signs and symptoms, including headaches, fatigue, digestive problems and skin conditions to name just a few.
N.E.T. works with the limbic system, which is the part of the nervous system that controls the body's reaction to emotion and memory. Normally, when we experience an emotion, the limbic system causes the body to release protein molecules called neuropeptides. The neuropeptide release is different for each emotion we experience and these proteins cause a reaction within every cell in the body. This is why we feel differently physically when we are angry as opposed to when we are sad.
In normal circumstances, the body processes this reaction smoothly and the body's response to the emotion returns to normal. However, sometimes, the body is unable to process the neuropeptide reaction to stress and the physiological reaction continues. This may occur, for example, if the stress is particularly great or unexpected, such as a sudden death in the family, or if it continues for a long time, such as dysfunctional family relationships, or occurs repeatedly. It may also occur if many stresses are occurring at the same time, such as moving house and changing job. It is more likely to occur if the body is already physically or chemically challenged at the time of coming into contact with the stress, such as suffering from a virus, being involved in a car accident or after surgery.
When the body is unable to process the stress reaction, an "N.E.C." or Neuro Emotional Complex is formed. This is then replayed when the person comes in contact with a stress similar to the initial incident that created the N.E.C. Under these circumstances the body reacts not only to the present stress, but also replays the past reaction. With subsequent exposure to similar stresses, the physiological reaction builds and builds until it damages the body enough to produce symptoms and illness.
N.E.T. works without the use of drugs and surgery. It uses a combination of kinesiology and acupressure points to identify present stresses acting on the body and then detecting what original stressful incident set up this reaction in the body. The patient then holds certain acupressure points to "reset" the nervous system. This allows the limbic system to function more efficiently and stop replaying the stress reaction within the body. In doing so, symptoms related to these stress responses are alleviated or decreased.
N.E.T. can also be used to remove any physiological blocks to achieving your goals.
In a comprehensive workup, the individual is guided through the process of goal setting in the nine main areas of life. This includes: family, health, home, ethical, financial, education, recreation, career and spiritual fields. The individual sets goals relative to them and their view of the world. Once the desired goals are established, the practitioner uses N.E.T. to make sure established neurological patterns are not sabotaging the achievement of these goals.
This process is particularly useful for individuals who keep hitting the same hurdles in life. This may include such things as repeated business failure, a pattern of broken relationships, inability to pass educational milestones or move forward in one's career. Athletes and sportspeople often find this form of treatment useful in removing stress related blocks to performance.
Most participants find the goal setting procedures particularly useful not only in helping them achieve their goals, but in understanding why it may have been difficult for them to do this in the past.
